We watched Edward Scissorhands tonight. It's another of Tim Burton's beautifully-wrought dark tales of being outside the usual. And Johnny Depp is as brilliant as ever. He brings such delicacy to the outsiders he plays. Such a haunting quality regardless of how odd or unusual the character is. Really that's the point. That the outsiders are more human than the humans.

But on another level it's also a modern myth. The happiness or sadness of the ending is not so much the point. Rather it's what comes of the end. In this case the creation of snow. It's the story of how snow came to the town.

And now we're listening to Annie Lennox off the Return of the King soundtrack...
